Two 'Hommages à Luther'

A pair of celebratory events will be held on October 21 and October 31. Details are filling in.

The October 21 event will be held at Très-Saint-Nom-de-Jésus and the October 31 Concert will be held at The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul.

-November, 2017: Liturgy: Common Prayer from Conflict to Communion

A liturgy called "Common Prayer: From Conflict to Communion" will be led by Archbiship Christian Lepine (Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montreal) and Bishop Michael Pryse (Eastern Synod of the ELCIC) on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church.

-December, 2017: Reformation Concert with Works from the Lutheran and Roman Traditions

An event celebrating the rapprochement between the Lutheran World Federation and the Vatican on the occasion of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation (posting of the 95 Thesis in 1517 by Luther):
Mendelssohn: Reformation Symphony (Lutheran composer celebrating his faith), paired with Messiaen’s “Et exspecto resurrectionem mortuorum” (Roman Catholic composer celebrating his faith)

-March, 2017: Visit by Bishop Sophie Petersen of Greenland

A full slate of events had been planned for the visit of Bishop Sofie Petersen of Greenland, of the Lutheran Church of Denmark. She had been invited to Montreal to speak at Concordia University and was going to meet with the Montreal Lutheran community, as well. Unfortunately, she fell ill at the last minute and was unable to travel. Our prayers remain with her and we hope that we will have the opportunity to re-schedule in the future.

-May, 2017: Family Concert by Canadian Folksinger Connie Kaldor

A family concert by Canadian folksinger Connie Kaldor was held on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 17:00 (5:00pm) at St. Barnabas Angilcan Church in Pierrefonds (12301 Colin). All who attended enjoyed the concert immensely and many were able to chat with Connie and the band afterwards.

-May, 2017: Reformation and the City

To mark the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, and Montreal’s 375th anniversary, the Department of Theological Studies of Concordia University and McGill’s School of Religious Studies held a two-day conference on The Reformation and the City. Keynote speakers included Kirsi Stjerna (co-general editor of the new Luther edition ‘The Annotated Luther’), Brooks Schramm (co-author of Martin Luther, the Bible, and the Jewish People), and, among others, Catherine Clifford, Jarrett Carty, Jason Zuidema, and Allen Jorgenson. The conference was convened by Matthew R. Anderson, Dept. of Theological Studies, Concordia, together with Gerbern Oegema, School of Religious Studies, McGill. It was be hosted Monday and Tuesday May 8-9, 2017 by Concordia’s Dept. of Theological Studies and McGill’s School of Religious Studies, both in the heart of downtown Montreal.
